Dr. Ralph G. Pifer, retired associate professor of psychology and social science at Sauk Valley Community College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in naturopathic psychology.

With 45 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Pifer excelled as an associate professor of psychology and social science, having operated at Sauk Valley Community College from 1981 until retiring in 2011. In this position, he specialized in educating nurses and clinicians in psychology. Prior to this appointment, he began his career as an educator in 1977, working as a vocational rehabilitation unit coordinator at the McKercher Rehabilitation Center until 1980. In addition to his primary vocational duties, Dr. Pifer is well regarded for his scholarly output, having authored and presented several professional essays, including “Paradigm Shifts for Philosophy Teaching” at the Chicago Spring ADOPT Conference in 2017 and “Lifelong Education—Diversion or Development and the Dream?” at the ADOPT Fall Conference in 2016.

Prior to embarking on his vocational journey, Dr. Pifer cultivated his own education, beginning with his time at Indiana University at South Bend, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 1972. He subsequently earned a Master of Arts in clinical psychology with honors at Western Michigan University in 1980, and he later achieved a Doctor of Naturopathic Psychology at Kingdom College of Natural Health in 2018. As part of his commitment to his profession, he has remained affiliated with several industry-related organizations, including the National Center for Science Education and The New York Academy of Sciences. In the near future, Dr. Pifer looks forward to publishing his forthcoming self-help book, tentatively titled “Enduring and Flourishing: Stoicism for Daily Life,” which he intends to be a capstone to his fulfilling career.
