Dr. Michael V. Namorato Jr., Professor Emeritus at the University of Mississippi, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in higher education.
A university professor for more than 50 years, Dr. Namorato has taught more than 40,000 students during his distinguished career. He began his professional journey as an instructor at Michigan State University, and later became a professor of history at the University of Mississippi for 43 years. Since his retirement in 2013, he has continued his relationship with the university, serving as an esteemed professor emeritus.
A prolific writer, Dr. Namorato has published eight books, including a biography of American economist Rexford Tugwell and two titles that delve into the New Deal and feature U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Committed to his field, he has served as president and a longtime member of the Economic and Business History Society and as a member of the American Catholic Historical Association and the American Historical Association.
Before embarking on his career, Dr. Namorato obtained a bachelor’s degree in history at Loyola College in 1969. He subsequently earned a master’s degree in American history in 1970 and a doctorate in 1975, both from Michigan State University. A lifelong learner, he currently is pursuing a degree in Biblical Hebrew and Biblical Greek at the Raleigh Institute of Biblical Studies. Among his many accomplishments as a student, he was awarded a fellowship by the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation.
Dr. Namorato serves as a driver for the American Red Cross and conducts volunteer work for GED programs, helping individuals obtain high school diplomas. He plans to continue his studies on Mississippi economic outflow, the stock market and various aspects of the American economy, as well as carry on as a volunteer teacher at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
