Rhoda-Gale Pollack, Theater Educator and Director at the University of Kentucky, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in theater education.
Fascinated by film and live theater from an early age, Dr. Pollack became a trailblazer among women in theater education and inspired thousands of students during her more than six decades of teaching and directing in theaters and colleges across the United States.
After 17 years of developing valuable expertise while working at the Arizona Playmakers, University of California Berkeley and Mills College, Dr. Pollack started the Theatre Arts Department at the University of Wisconsin – Parkside and served as chair of the fine arts division during her tenure at the institution from 1976 until 1986. Dr. Pollack was the dean of the College of Fine Arts at Wichita State University from 1986 to 1992. She became the dean of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Kentucky in 1992 and remains with the institution as professor emerita. Additionally, she worked as a costume designer and a freelance director for more than 50 years.
Dr. Pollack earned a bachelor’s degree in drama from Carnegie Mellon University in 1958. She earned a master’s degree in theater from San Francisco State University in 1966 and a doctorate in theater from Stanford University in 1971.
Dedicated to her field, Dr. Pollack has served as a member of the Wisconsin Arts Board, Racine Arts Council and the advisory council with WGTD-FM in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She has directed 40 productions and served as the costume designer in 45 performances. Dr. Pollack currently manages the blog, World War One: Plays, Playwrights & Productions. Notably, she has been featured in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Entertainment, Who’s Who in the Midwest and Who’s Who of American Women.
