A highly accomplished educator, Ms. Swoape has taught mathematics at the middle school and high school levels since 1992. She began her career as a mathematics and physics teacher at Pine River-Backus Schools from 1992 to 1997. Ms. Swoape subsequently served as the math team leader and teacher, as well as a dual credit instructor, at South Bend Career Academy from 2011 until 2014. She temporarily retired in 2019 after teaching mathematics at South Bend Community School Corporation for five years, but returned to the classroom in 2021 as a mathematics teacher in Clay High School.

As a professional development coordinator for the 21st Century Grant in Minnesota, Ms. Swoape employed her vast expertise to help many teachers improve their professional skills. Among the many types of mathematics she has taught, Ms. Swoape most enjoys teaching pre-calculus and calculus. Committed to expanding her positive influence in her field, Ms. Swoape has served as treasurer of the board and chair of the board’s financial committee at Michiana Science and Technology Center, Inc.

Ms. Swoape earned an associate degree in engineering from Itasca Community College in 1990, before obtaining a bachelor’s degree in education, math and physics from Bemidji State University in 1992. She acquired a master’s degree in education/administration from Purdue University Northwest in 2012.
