Dr. Lentz is a board chairman for Virginia Highlands Community College in Abingdon, Virginia, a position he has held for two years. For eight years, he taught students as an adjunct faculty member at Wytheville Community College in Wytheville, Virginia. He attended Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in biology in 1969. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry in Richmond, Virginia in 1975. He secured his periodontology certification in 1980. From 1975 to 1978, Dr. Lentz served in the United States Navy.
An active member of his community, Dr. Lentz belongs to several civic groups. He is active with the Historical Society of Washington County, Virginia and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. He also maintains memberships with the Boy Scouts of America and the National Society Sons of the American Revolution. He belongs to multiple professional groups as well, including the American Dental Association, the Washington County Dental Society, Pierre Fauchard Academy, the Virginia Society of Periodontists, the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Academy of Periodontology, the Southwest Virginia Dental Society and the Virginia Dental Association.
Dr. Lentz ran a successful dental practice of his own for 35 years. His areas of expertise are periodontics, dental implants and oral medicine. He is also an art lover and served as the president of William King Museum of Art for two years and served on the board here for six years. While he was president of the museum, it was nationally accredited. In the next few years, he hopes to retire.
