William E. Doolittle, PhD, Erich W. Zimmermann Regents Professor of Geography at the University of Texas at Austin, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.
Dr. Doolittle has been the Erich W. Zimmermann Regents professor of geography at the University of Texas at Austin since 2000. Previously, he was a professor of geography for the university from 1996 to 2000 and before this, an associate professor of geography from 1987 to 1996. He began his career at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. His career also took him to Mississippi State University.
Starting his education at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, Texas, Dr. Doolittle earned an Associate of Arts degree in 1972 and went on to Texas Christian University, also in Fort Worth, for his bachelor’s in government and geography. He continued his education with master’s in geography from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, graduating in 1976. He secured his doctorate in geography and archaeology at the University of Oklahoma and went abroad to Stockholm University in Sweden, earning an honoris causa honorific degree.
Dr. Doolittle is the author of multiple books and articles and maintains membership on several professional boards, including the Society for American Archaeology. He served with the United States Navy from 1967 to 1968, completing a tour of Vietnam during this time.
