Joy Shaffer, Teacher of Elementary Technology at Maplewood Elementary School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in technology instruction.

After earning a Bachelor of Science in business marketing in 2006 and a Master of Education in business/workforce training and development in 2009 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Ms. Shaffer subsequently completed coursework at Gratz College in 2011, with the Art in Action grant program at Edinboro University in 2012 and at the Professional Development Institute at the University of San Diego in 2014. Professionally, she provided superior service as assistant director of admissions and enrollment specialist with Education Management Corporation in Pittsburgh from 2009 to 2010 and then excelled as a business teacher with Maplewood Junior and Senior High School from 2010 to 2013 and as an elementary technology instructor with Maplewood Elementary School from 2015 to the present.

Ms. Shaffer’s many honors during her academic and scholastic career include the Extra Mile Award from the Pennsylvania Association for Educational Communications and Technology in 2012 and the Outstanding Graduate Student Award of Merit, Technology Support and Training Department from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2009. She attributes her success to having the right people around her who supported her throughout the years, and counts her creation of a maker’s space, a room that is available for students to come in and have a hands-on experience using science, technology, engineering, and math, as a career highlight.
