Zeynep Kiliç, PhD, Chairperson of the Department of Sociology at University of Alaska Anchorage, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.
Dr. Kiliç began her education at Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in economics in 1992. She subsequently continued her studies at Arizona State University to earn a master’s in sociology in 1997. She stayed with ASU to become a senior researcher from 2001 and 2008 and attended the school again in 2006 as a student to secure her doctorate in sociology.
Dr. Kiliç continued her career at the University of Alaska Anchorage as an assistant professor of sociology from 2010 to 2015 and an associate professor of sociology from 2015 to 2019. She is a current professor of sociology with the University of Alaska Anchorage, a position she has held since 2019 and since 2018, she has been the chairperson for the Sociology Department for the university.
In addition to her success in academia, Dr. Kiliç is a documentarian who directed, wrote and produced “Tables of Istanbul,” released in 2016. The film won multiple awards, including best documentary at the Madrid International Film Festival in 2017 and the IndieFest Film Awards in Los Angeles, California. She has won multiple awards for her career in academia and belongs to several charitable organizations, including Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America. She came to the United States as an au pair at the age of 23 and hopes to inspire other immigrants to pursue education.
