With nearly 40 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Bonner has excelled as an associate professor and the director of the criminology program at the University of Saint Mary – Leavenworth since 2011. He previously began his career as the deputy director of enforcement, apprehension and investigations for the Kansas Department of Corrections from 1983 to 2011. Before embarking on his professional path, he pursued an education at Colorado Technical University, earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Dr. Bonner subsequently concluded his studies at Capella University, obtaining a master’s degree in human services with a concentration in criminal justice in 2008 prior to graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in public safety with a concentration in criminal justice, with distinction, in 2012.
Beyond his primary responsibilities within the field, Dr. Bonner has been active as the faculty senate chairman for the University of Saint Mary – Leavenworth for two years. Dedicated to a number of community service projects within his school district, he has additionally contributed to the advisory board for Leavenworth County Community Corrections. Dr. Bonner has likewise found success with several organizations in relation to his areas of expertise, including the Kansas Gang Investigators Association, Alpha Phi Sigma and his local chapter of Pi Gamma Mu.
