One career highlight in her life occurred while she was working as a case manager for a Denver insurance company, in which she was responsible for contacting patients across the U.S. when one patient’s story deeply touched her and the two became friends, with the patient ultimately providing funds in her will for Ms. McPherson to deliver her eulogy.

Specializing in oncology, Ms. McPherson has been in nursing for 45 years and plans to continue on this career path. She currently teaches oncology to other nurses and oversees programs across 19 hospitals and four clinics. She advocates for her patients and for her staff as an educator and leader among her peers. She is also a community leader who spent 10 years working directly with the homeless and worked on a project to clean and renovate an abandoned synagogue in the community to turn it into a halfway house.
