Ellen Kowalczyk, Teacher at McLaurin Elementary School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in instruction and coaching.
After initially obtaining a BS in elementary education and teaching in 2017, magna cum laude, from Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi, Ms. Kowalczyk continued her education with a Master of Arts in Teaching in English education from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.
Ms. Kowalczyk provided superior service as a youth ministry intern with Briarwood Presbyterian Church in 2015 and a resident assistant at Belhaven University from 2015 to 2016. From 2017 to the present, she has flourished as a second-grade elementary school teacher with McLaurin Elementary School and also as an assistant tennis coach and later head coach with McLaurin High School since 2018. Her accolades include Best Elementary Teacher, named by Hometown Rankin Magazine in 2019, and Teacher as Servant Leader in 2017. Ms. Kowalczyk maintains affiliation with Mississippi Professional Educators and the International Literacy Association.
Ms. Kowalczyk attributes her success to the relationships she built with students, maintaining that having a good relationship with them makes them realize that she respects them, encouraging them to grow academically and behaviorally. She cites her career highlights being able to help students with behavioral problems. Ms. Kowalczyk’s goal in the near future is to improve her mathematics instruction to make sure it is more interactive and enjoyable.
