After earning a Bachelor of Arts in biology and chemistry at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, he obtained a doctorate in medicine from Saint Louis University School of Medicine in Saint Louis, Missouri in 1986. He serves on the executive committee of the Oregon Psychiatric Physicians Association and on the board of trustees for the Oregon Medical Association. He is a member of the Oregon Alliance to Prevent Suicide, the Oregon Health Authority System of Care Advisory Council and the Oregon Council of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
Multiple professional honors have been bestowed upon Dr. Wolfe. He has been recognized as a distinguished fellow by the American Psychiatric Association in 2019 and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in 2013. He was the Doctor Citizen of the Year in 2018 for the Oregon Medical Association and the recipient of the Heart of the Healer Award in 2011. The Oregon Council of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry named him as the Child Psychiatrist of the Year in 2003. The Oregon Health Authority presented him with the Mental Health Award for Excellence in 2001.
