After earning a Bachelor of Arts in biology and chemistry, summa cum laude, at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, he obtained a doctorate in medicine from Saint Louis University School of Medicine in Missouri in 1986. He serves on the executive committee of the Oregon Psychiatric Physicians Association since 2007 and on the board of trustees for the Oregon Medical Association since 2009. He is a member of the Oregon Alliance to Prevent Suicide, the Oregon Health Authority System of Care Advisory Council and the Oregon Council of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
Multiple professional accolades have been bestowed upon Dr. Wolfe. He has been recognized as a distinguished fellow by the American Psychiatric Association in 2019 and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in 2013. He was further celebrated as the Doctor Citizen of the Year in 2018 by the Oregon Medical Association and the recipient of the Heart of the Healer Award from YouthMove Oregon in 2011. The Oregon Council of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry honored him as the Child Psychiatrist of the Year in 2003. The Oregon Health Authority presented him with the Mental Health Award for Excellence as a testament to his work in youth suicide prevention in 2001.
