Judith Luray Buenaflor, Professor at Northampton Community College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in higher education and writing.

Inspired by her husband and children to spearhead a career in education, Ms. Buenaflor took a leap of faith and returned to school to follow her dreams. Today, she holds a Bachelor of Arts from Rosemont College from 1971, a Master of Arts in English and a Maser of Education from Kutztown from 1998 and an Education Specialist degree from Walden University. Ms. Buenaflor was hired to teach at Central Catholic High School in Allentown, Pennsylvania from 1991 to 1997 until joining the faculty at the St. Thomas More School, where she was an assistant principal and later a principal through 2006. From there, she began a tenure with Northampton Community College, serving as a professor and interim assistant dean since 2006. 

At Northampton Community College, aside from being chair of the academic policy committee, Ms. Buenaflor has been asked to be the coordinator for English 1, the first writing composition program students take in college. She was moreover tasked to coordinate the writing intensive program, a writing program that is more specific to each of their disciplines. She finds wearing many hats at the college an important highlight in her profession, as she enjoys every responsibility and it serves as a testament to the level of confidence people have in her ability. Alongside her primary positions, Ms. Buenaflor is the author of a children’s book that centers on children who have learning or physical disabilities. Notably, the book has received rave reviews and has been highlighted in the New York Times Book Review. Looking ahead, Ms. Buenaflor looks forward to settling into a well-deserved retirement.
