Mr. Jones obtained a Bachelor of Science in applied mathematics with a minor in computer science, Elizabeth City State University in 1997, and later earned a Master of Science in applied mathematics from the same university in 2006. He also took coursework toward a master’s program in quaternary sciences at the University of Maine in Orono, Maine in 2006.
Mr. Jones has excelled in mathematics instruction for more than two decades. With his alma mater, Elizabeth City State University, he served as a mentor with North Carolina Mathematics and Science Education Network and with the Head Start Program from 1993 to 1997. He then excelled as a seventh-grade mathematics and science teacher with Enfield Middle S.T.E.A.M. Academy in Halifax, North Carolina from 2000 to 2002, substitute teacher with Cradock Middle School in Portsmouth, Virginia from 2003 to 2004 and mathematics tutor with the School Works Program in 2004.
Subsequently, Mr. Jones excelled as a substitute teacher with Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools from 2007 to 2009, mathematics instructor with ECPI University in Virginia Beach, Virginia in 2009 and Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) tutor with the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools in 2010 and mathematics tutor with College of the Albemarle in North Carolina in 2012. He prospered as a computer lab assistant with Elizabeth City State University from 2007 to 2016, mathematics teacher with Hertford County Middle School from 2017 to 2018, mathematics teacher and tutor with H.L. Trigg Community School from 2018 to 2020, adjunct high school mathematics teacher with Canyonville Academy, Oregon from 2020 to 2021, and an online mathematics teacher with Curie Learning, a leading provider of customized after school learning programs for students from Pre K through high school from 2021 to the present.
Mr. Jones attributes his success to his passion and affinity for mathematics, as well as to his perseverance and determination. Completing his master’s degree in applied mathematics has been Mr. Jones’ most notable accomplishment. He is also proud of being able to teach at an alternative school for several years as a trained alternative school teacher, since he was able to help and assist students who have not been successful in regular schools. In the coming years, Mr. Jones hopes to complete a doctoral degree in mathematics. He also hopes to be involved in teaching mathematics at the tertiary education level.
