Who's Who Top Educators

Kim S. Petrasek

Title: Superintendent
Company: Mannheim School District 83
Location: Franklin Park, Illinois, United States

Kim Petrasek, Superintendent at Mannheim School District 83, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education administration.

Ms. Petrasek obtained Bachelors of Science in education and special education from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo and subsequently a master’s degree in reading from Michigan State University in East Lansing. She subsequently continued her education with master’s degrees in administration and educational leadership from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

Ms. Petrasek has devoted a lifetime to education as a Pre-K, kindergarten and first, third, fifth, eighth special education and college teacher. As an administrator, she has excelled as an assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent of curriculum of instruction and superintendent of Mannheim School District 83. Ms. Petrasek’s areas of expertise include curriculum, human resources, special education and gifted bilingual education, finance and technology. She oversees approximately 3,000 students from Pre-K through eighth grade at Mannheim School District 83 and is responsible for human resources, buildings and grounds, transportation, curriculum and instruction, special education as well as business and finances.

Keenly interested in community affairs, Ms. Petrasek serves as a volunteer eucharistic minister with St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and organizes various community events for her homeowners’ association. She has been honored with a Superintendent of Distinction award from West Cook and a leadership award from the local police department. In 2022, Ms. Petrasek received a Distinguished Worldwide Humanitarian Award from Marquis Who’s Who.

Ms. Petrasek credits much of her success to people who have supported her in many ways, especially her parents. Equally contributory to her achievements was her work ethic, which consisted in being hardworking, organized, goal-oriented, as well as humanitarian. She also believes that her drive came from being open to new ideas and having a love for learning, as itmade her an enthusiastic participant in workshops, trainings and conferences.

As a career highlight, Ms. Petrasek is most proud of constructing an early childhood center for children aged three through five, as well as all-day kindergarten wings for three elementary buildings. She provided what she calls “work-study sessions for the Board of Education” to understand their importance and determine the overall timeline of construction, implementation, hiring, curriculum and instruction for the programs. In coming years, Ms. Petrasek is looking forward to retirement, but she has plans to travel more and do things on her “bucket list” that involve plenty of education as well as fun. A believer in healthy work-life and mental balance, she enjoys playing hard as much as she does in working hard.
