Kenneth Hackman, Zoological Field Studies Coordinator at Madison Central High School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Education for dedication, achievements, and leadership in biology instruction.
Originally hailing from Germany, Mr. Hackman immigrated to the United States at the age of six. After initially obtaining a Bachelor of Science in secondary education and biology instruction in 1983 from Mississippi State University in Starksville, he later continued his education with a master’s degree in school leadership and Instruction in 2020 from Belhaven University in Jackson.
With Callaway High School from 1983 to 1987, Mr. Hackman provided superior education teaching advanced placement biology, honors biology, and anatomy and physiology. In addition, he oversaw the school’s drama program, coached volleyball and assisted with the band program. He similarly prospered as an instructor in middle school biology and math, as well as high school theater with St. Andrew’s Episcopal School from 1987 to 1991.
Since 1996, Mr. Hackman has excelled as a zoology instructor and zoological field studies coordinator with the Madison County, Mississippi Schools, teaching college level zoology to high school students in a technologically driven classroom. All assignments and tests are taken online, preparing students for the next level of tech education and STEM-styled learning. Students also have the option to participate in research driven studies outside of the regular classroom, by taking the Zoological Field Studies course. This class, carried out in conjunction with the School of Renewable Natural Resources at LSU gives students real world experience in biological research and application.
In addition to making an impact as a teacher, Mr. Hackman has flourished as an assistant and then head volleyball coach with Madison, winning district championships six straight years as head coach and never finishing lower than fifth in the state playoffs. He also assisted coaching fast pitch softball for three seasons, winning district each year. Mr. Hackman has also served as the “Voice of the Jaguars” for five varsity athletic programs, providing public address announcing at games and matches.
Mr. Hackman attributes his success to his passion for his professional and personal endeavors such as nature conservation and acting. His passion enables him to keep sharing his knowledge as much as he can. He was recognized as A Star Teacher for the State of Mississippi by the Mississippi Economic Council in 2023, an honor for which he was selected by one of 20 Star Students. In the coming years, Mr. Hackman sees himself still in the classroom and plans to keep teaching until he could no longer physically do so.
