Charles Graham, Chief Operating Officer at Behavioral Health Synergy Clinical Services, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in substance abuse treatment and education.

For more than two decades, Dr. Graham has excelled as a lecturer on recovery topics on drug use and abuse and corresponding mental health issues including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and substance abuse with experience teaching and reaching diverse client populations in the instruction of psycho-educational instruction of cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic theory, drug use and abuse, group therapy, family systems therapy, and transgenerational therapy.

After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in education curriculum and instruction in 1976 from Texas A&M University in College Station, Dr. Graham followed with a Master of Education in education administration in 1978 from the University of North Texas in Denton. He later continued his education with a Doctor of Psychology in clinical psychology in 2011 from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles.

Dr. Graham began his career as a schoolteacher with St. Joseph School in Bryan and Coppell High School from 1975 to 1979. He then provided superior service as a training manager from 1981 to 1986 with General Instrument Corporation in Chandler, Arizona, director of operations training and development with California Micro Devices in Tempe from 1986 to 1990, a manufacturing manager in the semiconductor productions division of Motorola from 1990 to 1996, director of training and development with InterConnect Technology in Sunnyvale, California from 1996 to 1997, production control manager with  ST Microelectronics in San Diego from 1997 to 1999, manufacturing operations manager with MicroSemi Corporation in Santa Ana, California from 2001 to 2004 and director of operations with Viper Technology in Irvine from 2004 to 2005.

Turning his attention to addiction and substance abuse counseling, Dr. Graham served as a program manager with Sober Living by the Sea in Newport Beach, California from 2005 to 2010. He has excelled as clinical director of Behavioral Health Synergy in Mission Viejo, California and Aurora, Colorado from 2010 to the present, where he directed the clinical start-up of a women’s residential treatment center and is responsible for consulting services in the alcohol and drug abuse treatment including individual and group therapy, psycho-educational lectures on substance abuse and mental health issues. In addition, Dr. Graham has prospered as an adjunct professor of psychology with the Community College of Aurora since 2015 in which he teaches Introduction to Psychology, Human Development, Child Development and Abnormal Psychology.

Dr. Graham has contributed numerous lectures and articles to behavioral studies that include speaking at the International Conference on Dual Diagnosis in Munich, Germany in 2017;  presenter, “Treating Bipolar Disorder in the Residential Treatment Center,” at the California Association of Alcohol and Drug Counselors in Sacramento in 2012; the article “Co-occurring Substance Abuse and Bipolar Disorder: Theoretical Conceptualization of Long-Term Treatment,” in The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Irvine, CA in 2011;  and presenter, “Domestic Violence: The Hidden Face of Substance Abuse,” California Association of Alcohol and Drug Counselors, Ontario, California in 2008.

After spending over 20 years working in electronics, Dr. Graham states that he realized his true calling was to help people, and so he went back and completed a doctorate in clinical psychology. As a career highlight, he mentions the satisfaction from treating patients who have debilitating co-occurring disorders and working with them to the point where they are productive in life. He is also proud of helping to train the next generation of therapists within the community college environment.

In the coming years, Dr. Graham would like to continue teaching and raising the next group of therapists to have compassion, expertise, and understanding so that they can have the same passion for it that he does.
