Attributing her success to her mentor, the late David H. Smith, Chair of Pediatrics at University of Rochester, Dr. Ackerman has always been impressed with how important it was for physicians to be able to impact the health of a person. When she was in medical school, she had thought that the diseases that adults had back then were mostly self-inflicted, which she acknowledged to be an unfair assessment. She thought of the best way of how she could have the most impact was to have an impact on children in their early lives. Dr. Ackerman considers her career highlight to be the impact that she has had with students and trainees, including residents and fellows in pediatric critical care.

Dr. Ackerman’s goal within the next five years is to be able to heal the healthcare system from the inside out through coaching.
