Ms. Blackwood attributes her success to her upbringing on the island of Jamaica. She came from a family of teachers, but they encouraged her to try other professions. She tried to explore a career in science, but she developed an allergic reaction to chemicals. Ms. Blackwood thereupon studied actuarial science and later decided to pursue her passion for teaching. She considers having the courage to shift careers then go back to school to earn her master’s degree to be her career highlight.

In the future, Ms. Blackwood would like to return to school to earn her master’s in leadership and work on her school administrator and district license. She looks forward to contributing to education whether in the United States or overseas. She would also like to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy in education.
