J. Steven Ott, Professor and Dean Emeritus at the University of Utah, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in public affairs.
Dedicating more than two decades of teaching and administration to the University of Utah, Dr. Ott was honored as professor and dean emeritus in 2018. During his time at the institution, he served as a professor of political science and public administration and as director of the Institute of Public and International Affairs, during which time he was presented with a Distinguished Faculty Service Award. He had also gained prolific expertise as an educator of public administration at the University of Maine in 1987 and as president and vice president of numerous non-profit organizations in Utah. In addition, Dr. Ott is an author and editor of books and articles in the areas of public management policy, nonprofit organizations, organization theory, organizational behavior, human resource management, administrative theory, accountability and organizational culture.
Dr. Ott earned a Bachelor of Arts in labor management relations from the Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Science in industrial management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management. He later attained a Doctor of Philosophy in public administration from the University of Colorado. At the start of his career, Dr. Ott became involved with a management consulting firm in Denver where he worked with government agencies and non-profit organizations in health and human services. After dedicating 25 years to his work, he decided in the 1980s it was time to revisit his academic career. Today, he maintains professional membership with the American Society for Public Administration and attributes his vast success to hard work and dedication, along with mentors such as Professor J. Shafritz and Professor Ted Atdert.
