Michael J. Walzer, Teacher at Akron Public Schools, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in grade school education and coaching.
In 1976, Mr. Walzer obtained a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Kent State University in Ohio. He thereupon provided superior education from 1976 to 2006 as a mathematics, science, and history teacher in grades five through nine in the Akron Public Schools, additionally serving as a soccer and track coach. He has served his community as a poll worker with the Summit County Board of Elections from 2016 to the present and is a regular donator to the Kent State Alumni Association and High School Scholarship Fund.
Mr. Walzer was initially inspired to enter the educational field when he served as a substitute teacher when he taught at a Catholic grade school for nine weeks as part of a high school project, offering tutoring services at the same time. As a high school athlete, he placed 13th in the state of Ohio as a middle-distance runner (regarding it as his favorite lifetime accomplishment) and won numerous ribbons for track competitions. In addition, Mr. Walzer prides himself on his poetry and published his work twice with Eber and Wein.
Mr. Walzer attributes his success to his upbringings of two good parents and also to his deep faith. In the coming years, he may go back to substitute teaching again for two to three years and also would like to spend more time with his grandniece who is 17 years old and his grandnephews who are three and five years old. Further, he would like to submit another poem to Eber and Wein Publishers in the next year or two.
