Jenny Rebecca Cooper, Art Specialist at Stratford Board of Education, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in art instruction and animal therapy.
At the start of her professional endeavors, Ms. Cooper obtained a Bachelor of Science and later a Master of Science in art education from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven. Since 1999, she has excelled as an art specialist with the Stratford Board of Education. She was inspired to enter the educational profession after assisting her art teacher in high school and realized she wanted to teach art. She attributes her success to the empathy and compassion that she acquired during her childhood when she was bullied.
Ms. Cooper has authored the current version of Stratford’s art curriculum for the elementary level, as well as an action plan for therapy dogs. Her professional memberships include the Connecticut Art Educators Association and National Art Educators Association. According to Ms. Cooper, the highlight of her career was training and certifying two of her therapy dogs, for which also wrote an action plan. She has taken her dogs to school to help her students. In the coming years, Ms. Cooper intends to continue working as an art teacher and expand her training. She is now training her third dog, Sprocket.
