Barbara Bromley, Fifth Grade Teacher at Hazelwood Elementary School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in educational innovation.
After obtaining a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, in elementary and special education from the University of Oregon in 1985, Ms. Bromley continued her education with a Master of Arts, also magna cum laude, in curriculum and instruction from the University of Connecticut in 1998. From 1992 to 2000, she excelled as a sixth grade teacher with Pinckneyville Middle School in Norcross, Georgia, where she developed a National Education Association award-winning interdisciplinary unit on World Hunger and piloted the National Geographic Kids Network Program.
As a fourth grade mathematics and science teacher with Clear Creek Elementary in Silverdale, Washington from 2006 to 2016, Ms. Bromley involved students in award-winning year-long projects to encourage exploration of environmental issues and created lesson plans with an emphasis on student engagement and project-based learning. Ms. Bromley thereupon flourished as a physics and flight instructor with Ridgetop Middle School in Silverdale from 2016 to 2017, creating flight instruction lessons using Microsoft Flight Simulator X and X Plane software.
Since 2017, with Hazlewood Elementary School in Edmonds, she has made an impact as a member of District STEM Team and Science Curriculum Adoption and Materials Committee and implements WABS (Washington Alliance For Better Schools) After School STEM Club. Ms. Bromley’s professional associations include the National Science Teachers Association, National Science Leaders Education Association and Phi Delta Kappa International.
Ms. Bromley attributes her success to a lot of hard work and having a passion for teaching. She considers her most notable achievement to be what she does on a daily basis, engaging kids and wanting them to learn every day. In the coming years, her goal is to continue teaching as well as continue as an advocate of problem and project-based learning.
