Rhona Brenda McKenzie, M.S., MEd., Instructor at New York City Department of Education, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in special education and English instruction.

For 20 years between 1991 and 2011, Ms. McKenzie excelled as a special education teacher with the New York City Department of Education. Demonstrating a love of teaching since her younger years, she earned a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in history and followed with a postgraduate diploma in education in her native Guyana. Ms. McKenzie served as assistant examiner with the Caribbean Examinations Council in Barbados and taught English, English literature and methodology with the Cyril Potter College of Education, Georgetown, Guyana. Upon immigrating to the United States, she obtained a Master of education in special education from Long Island University in Brooklyn and a master’s degree in English as a Second Language from The College of New Rochelle in New York.

Ms. McKenzie has continued to thrive as an early intervention specialist on a part-time basis following her retirement from the NYC DOE. Additionally, she has provided superior service as a teacher and director of the Young People’s Development where she successfully tutored a student in winning the Youth Night Award in three districts before she retired and remains active in a variety of community programs designed for senior citizens. Dedicated to her community through church activities, Ms. McKenzie was honored with a certificate for professionalism and dedicated service in 2000 from Allen Memorial AME. In the coming years, she hopes to continue to “help people in whatever way she can.”
