Title: Middle School Mathematics and Visual Art Teacher
Company: Billings Middle School
Location: Seattle, Washington, United States
Madisen Amelia Lewis, Middle School Mathematics and Visual Art Teacher at Billings Middle School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mathematics and visual arts instruction.
Ms. Lewis has parlayed her early interest in visual arts into a successful career as an educator. She has been especially drawn to mathematics, as she sees it as similar to pattern recognition, describing the world around us and being able to solve problems at a larger scale with critical thinking; moreover, she likes to look for visual solutions to problems. Consequently, Ms. Lewis has thrived as an instructor both in mathematics and visual arts with Billings Middle School in the Seattle area from 2019 to 2022
After initially obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in art and psychology from the University of California Santa Cruz in 2015, Ms. Lewis continued her education with a master’s degree in teaching with an emphasis on elementary education from Seattle University in 2019. Her initial concentration was on visual arts, providing excellent service as a supervising artist for Smiley Orca Face Painting & Natural Henna from 2014 to 2017 as a gallery intern for Revolver Gallery 2017. Ms. Lewis thereupon excelled as an art teacher with Team Prime Time at the City School in Los Angeles, in 2017 and Redmond Art Works in Washington in 2018, a private tutor in Los Angeles and Seattle from 2017 to 2020, and a peer coach, classroom aide and teaching intern for the Edmonds School District between 2018 and 2019.
Ms. Lewis has also provided superior service as a volunteer as a violence prevention peer educator at the University of California Santa Cruz, an administrative assistant with the Diversity Center of Santa Cruz County, a teacher assistant at Sequoia Elementary School and a “Tales to Tails” program associate arranging appointments between trainers of service animals and students learning to read with the Santa Cruz Public Library. Driven to remain aware of changes in the field, Ms. Lewis is affiliated with the National Council for Teaching Mathematics and the Northwest Association of Independent Schools. In the coming years, she is hoping to teach in international schools to further her career.
