Thomas Alan Norton, Professor Emeritus at Compton College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education in English literature.

After initially obtaining a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa, Mr. Norton continued his education with a graduate degree in comparative literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In addition, he earned a certificate in psychoanalytic psychotherapy from the New Center for Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles. He has excelled in education in literature for over two decades.

Mr. Norton excelled as a professor of English composition and literature at Compton College in California from 2000 to 2021, at which point he was designated as Professor Emeritus. At Compton College, he served on the Institutional Effectiveness Committee and the Curriculum Committee. With Compton, Mr. Norton was also active as Secretary of the Executive Board and a Senator in the Academic Senate.

Mr. Norton has enjoyed affiliations with the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges, the American Association of University Professors and the International Neuropsychoanalysis Association, an international network of non-profit organizations that support a dialogue between the neurosciences and psychoanalysis. For many years, he has contributed to his community as a Lay Eucharistic Minister at his church and also serves as an Associate of the Order of the Holy Cross, an international Anglican monastic order.

Mr. Norton attributes his success to his extended family, which he cited as a strong support system. In the near future, he is looking to recuperate from upcoming hip replacement surgery, as well as continue his religious studies and writing as a member of the Academy of American Poets. He also looks forward to enjoying his well-deserved retirement with his twin brother, Andy, and his soon-to-be adopted puppy.
