For over five decades, Mr. Bergen has excelled as an instructor in communications arts. He provided superior education as a teacher with St. Mary Springs Academy, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and Xavier High School and Roosevelt Junior High School in Appleton from 1966 to 1975. From 1975 to 2000 Mr. Bergen taught communication arts with Appleton East High School, instructing American literature including aspects of speech, reading, writing and listening. As part of the curriculum, students produced newspapers and video newscasts. He also taught forensics and directed two plays, winning three national teaching awards. According to Mr. Bergen, his most notable achievement has been reaching children who are not normally reached in the classroom. Students agree that he had been the best teacher they have had because he saw them as people instead of little objects who are bound to hate the classroom. In the coming years, he is hoping to publish a number of books, with the first concerning history media.
