Susan Gilmore, Director of Adult Education at Sacramento Unified School District, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in adult education for the developmentally disabled.

Since 2014, Ms. Gilmore has provided excellent service as the director of adult education with the A. Warren McClaskey Adult Center at the Sacramento City Unified School District. The McClaskey Center offers life skills classes for developmentally disabled adults. Classes emphasize the achievement of greater independence and a less restrictive lifestyle, and instruction is individualized, competency-based, age-appropriate and to the fullest extent possible takes place in the natural environment of the community.

Ms. Gilmore has excelled as an educator for over 50 years. She served as a professor and coordinator with the Speech and Hearing Clinic at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, from 1968 to 1979. After joining the Sacramento City Unified School District in 1979, she prospered in many roles that included supervisor for designated instruction and services and administrative specialist, special education; principal at the Fremont School for Adults; assistant superintendent for adult education; and principal with the McClaskey Adult Center.

After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1964 and a Master of Arts in 1965 in speech language pathology from the University of the Pacific, Ms. Gilmore followed with a Doctor of Philosophy in the same discipline from Ohio University, Athens, in 1968. She holds multiple certifications in speech pathology and speech correction.
