Michelle G. Jones, physical education teacher and coach at Berrien High School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in sports and physical education.
Ms. Jones is an award-winning gym teacher and coach with more than three decades of experience in education. A natural athlete, she played sports throughout high school and loved the experience of working with a team. She was inspired to pursue a career in education by her mother, sister, and aunt, all teachers, and in 1978, she completed a Master of Arts degree at Valdosta State University, with additional coursework through Brewton-Parker College. In 1988, Ms. Jones began teaching physical education at Berrien High School, where she would remain until her retirement in 2021.
During her time at Berrien High School, Ms. Jones was named Region Coach of the Year 19 times, and State Coach of the Year twice. She was active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, who also honored her as Coach of the Year, and in 2010, Ms. Jones was inducted into the coaching Hall of Fame, a distinction she considers to be one of the highlights of her career. Throughout her career, Ms. Jones was a member of the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association, the National Federation for High School, and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. She credits her success to her professional mentors and to the talent and motivation of the student athletes she coached, and looks forward to spending her retirement traveling and pursuing missionary work.
