Title: Music Enrichment Teacher
Company: Judson Elementary School
Location: Shreveport, Louisiana, United States
Arcemio T. Smith, Music Enrichment Teacher at Judson Elementary School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music education.
Mr. Smith’s profession as a musician stems from his powerful passion for music. Likewise, he recalls he was inspired by his piano teacher’s philosophy when he was learning to play piano, which was, “It is doubtful that he has playing skills if he is unable to explain them.” With this sentiment, he chose to pursue the educational route and has excelled as a music enrichment teacher at Judson Elementary School since 2017, where he was honored as Teacher of the Year in 2021. In addition, Mr. Smith founded the Cemitone Music and Arts Program in 2021, a non-profit music school where he teaches kids how to play wind instruments. He is also backed by earlier experience as the itinerant band director at Oak Park Elementary School and with Caddo Middle Career and Technology School.
To prepare for his career, Mr. Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in music performance from Grambling State University in 2010, where he had earlier been the recipient of the Most Improved Award, Sophomore Award and Conrad Hutchinson Award for Outstanding Musicianship. In 2018, he achieved a master’s degree in music education and a teaching certificate from Centenary College. Mr. Smith attributes his career trajectory and success to Jesus Christ, his parents and his brother, along with his own innate musical and teaching abilities. In five years’ time, Mr. Smith hopes to have acquired a building for his nonprofit group, as well as attained an administrative position. He can also envision himself producing more music and playing for events and remaining involved as a pianist with the Praise Temple Full Gospel Baptist Church.
