Lisa Gonsalves, executive director of Independence Academy Charter School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education and administration.
Drawing upon her experience as a teacher, Ms. Gonsalves has dedicated her career to curriculum development and coaching. She initially obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in theatre from Regis University in 2006. Thereafter, she returned to the aforementioned institution to earn a Master of Arts in dramatic literature in 2013 and a Master of Arts in educational leadership in 2015. Over the course of her career, she has found notable success as an administrator and a secondary English and theatre teacher for over 15 years.
Though her career has had many highlights, Ms. Gonsalves is most proud to have instituted a project-based math curriculum for students who needed additional support to meet grade-level standards. To her credit, six of her students skipped the following grade within the mathematics program. For her contributions in the field, she is honored to have been presented with accolades such as the Second Place Class 6 Best Feature Photograph from the Colorado Press Association, the BarNi Grant, the Pueblo Academy of Arts Wing, multiple acting awards from the All City One Act Festival, the Golden Apple Award and the Boulder Valley Prevention Connection Award for Outstanding Leadership. Above all, it has always been her passion to elevate teachers so, in turn, they would have the proper tools to elevate their students. Looking toward the future, her goal is to continue building programs at Independence Academy and focus on innovative ways to keep her students engaged.
