Luise Steinbrenner Weiss

Title: Business Reference Librarian
Company: Middle Country Public Library
Location: Mount Sinai, NY, United States

Luise Steinbrenner Weiss, librarian at Middle Country Public Library, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education and information science.

Ms. Weiss is a librarian and educator who has dedicated her career to making information science and reference information accessible to all. Although business was her primary interest and she had hoped to pursue secretarial training, Ms. Weiss attended Cornell College at her mother’s insistence. She graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Liberal Studies in math and continued her education at Long Island University Post, where she earned a Master of Library Science, and Stony Brook University, where she completed her Master’s capstone. Ms. Weiss began her career as an English teacher working with middle- and high-school students with special needs, and later became a part-time library science instructor at Long Island University Post.

After joining the staff at Middle Country Public Library, Ms. Weiss and her colleagues noticed the high demand for business and economics reference materials in their community. In response, they established a business owners’ group that met regularly at the library, and Ms. Weiss was instrumental in securing funding to create the Miller Business Center, a permanent business reference library and resource center. She is the co-author of “Strategies for a Successful Partnership” and “Small Business and Public Library.”
