Mei Gao, Retired Educator at the Northeast University of Finance and Economics, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in language education.
Since her youth, Ms. Gao has always had a passion for learning, which ultimately led her to pursue a career as an educator. Initially conducting coursework at Shenyang University in China, she earned her degree from Liaoning University in 1968. Setting the foundation for her first professional role as an educator, she taught at the Anchan Institute of Technology in China for one decade and went on to spend the next 15 years, from 1970 to 1985, as an educator of English at Northeastern University in Dalian, China. Ms. Gao arrived in the United States in 1988 as a visiting scholar at North Carolina State University and subsequently was permitted by President Bush to work in the country.
In the second half of her professional career in the United States, Ms. Gao taught Chinese at Wharton High School in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as other institutions part of the Atlanta Public Schools District. Most recently, she excelled as an educator of Chinese and English at the Northeast University of Finance and Economics until her retirement in 2012. Reflecting on her career, Ms. Gao recalls her most notable achievement would be influencing her students to go on to attend Ivy League schools. She is also honored to have been the recipient of a 10-Year Teacher Award and Plaque. According to Ms. Gao, knowledge is strength and she feels lucky to have experimented with different methods of teaching, made topics interesting and touched the lives of countless students.
