Ralph A. Mastrorio, Adjunct Professor at Salve Regina University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of medical education.
Dr. Mastrorio spent more than 30 years teaching medical education and bioethics at Shrewsbury High School in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts and biology for the Wachusett Regional School District. He is proud to have developed new curriculum for the schools, including establishing the Shrewsbury School District’s bioethics program, which introduces students to the ethical and philosophical questions raised by scientific and medical discoveries. Additionally, Dr. Mastrorio piloted the district’s first formal sex education program for middle school students.
After retiring from his career as a secondary school teacher, Dr. Mastrorio served as an assistant professor at Anna Maria College, where he taught medical biology and held an adjunct professor position at Salve Regina University for several years. Though currently retired, Dr. Mastrorio remains involved with Salve Regina University as a member of its Circle of Scholars, which offers seminars to senior students on subjects including art, health, history, literature, music and science. Intent on continuing his educational efforts into the near future, he plans to teach courses on microbiology.
Dr. Mastrorio has worked with the University of Massachusetts chapter of the American Chemical Society as a mentor to many early career scientists and has presented on bioethics for the National Science Teachers’ Convention in New York City. In recognition of his dedication to the students and staff at Shrewsbury High School, Dr. Mastrorio was presented with a Golden Apple Award. Dr. Mastrorio holds a Bachelor of Science in biology from Worcester State University and both a Master of Education and a Master of Arts in biological sciences from Anna Maria College. Dr. Mastrorio completed his education at Clark University, where he graduated with a Doctor of Education in medical biology.
