Joyce M. Fortune, Teacher at the New England Christian Academy, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in secondary education.
Growing up, Ms. Fortune knew she wanted to pursue a career in which she could impact the lives of others. Encouraged by her peers to become a secretary or a nurse, she turned to teach in an effort to reach and positively influence as many people as possible. Garnering experience in school, she studied at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Rhode Island College and Providence College. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1973 and a Master’s degree at UMass Dartmouth in 2012. With a lifelong love for literature, Ms. Fortune is most proud to have encouraged her students to write and submit poetry to the American Poetry Anthology. Though her career has been suffused with highlights, she is always happy to reconnect with her former students.
In addition to having celebrated a successful career as a middle school and high school teacher at the New England Christian Academy for over 30 years, Ms. Fortune has exceled as a tutor with Club Z. Over the course of her career, she has maintained professional affiliation with the Association of Christian Schools International. Additionally, she volunteered at the Johnston Christian Academy. For her contributions in the field, she is honored to have been recognized as Teacher of the Year in 1987. A celebrated Marquis listee, she is a past recipient of the Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarian Award. Above all, Ms. Fortune is gratified to identify with each and every one of her students.
