Title: Mathematics Educator
Company: Champaign Central High School
Location: Champaign, Illinois, United States
Lendell Hargrove, Mathematics Educator at Champaign Central High School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mathematics education.
Since 2020, Mr. Hargrove has excelled as a mathematics educator at Central High School of the Champaign Unit 4 School District in Champaign, Illinois. Inspired by the knowledge, patience, and enthusiasm he saw in his own teachers, Mr. Hargrove knew from a young age that he wanted to pursue a career in education. Apart from that, he also did not see a lot of African American math educators during his own schooling and he wanted to be one of those very few so that the Black children have a person they can identify with. In 2018, Mr. Hargrove earned a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Eastern Illinois University, where he went on to serve as a resident assistant through 2019.
Upon reflection, Mr. Hargrove attributes his professional success thus far to his own drive, as well as the support of his family and friends. He finds great joy in teaching and mentoring young children, which he finds to be the most rewarding aspect of his career. Forging relationships in a safe, learning environment is something he hopes all young students can achieve and he hopes to be able to do that for many students in the coming years. In five years’ time, Mr. Hargrove envisions himself with a Master’s degree and still continuing to teach. He adds that having a Master’s in mathematics would allow him to teach higher-level math, such as calculus. He also hopes to be in a higher position, either administrative or as a principal at his own school.
