Dr. Meenakshi Singh, Owner, Director, and Founder of SMARTS Club has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in STEM and STEAM education.
Dr. Singh is an educator and entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience writing curriculum and teaching a variety of subjects to students at the secondary and postsecondary levels. Since 2010, she has brought her passion for education directly to students through SMARTS Club Education and Enrichment, an independent STEM- and STEAM- focused tutoring center offering creative supplementary camps and enrichment workshops for K-12 students. Dr. Singh holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Lady Shri Ram College and a Master of Philosophy from Jawaharlal Nehru University. She began teaching at Delhi University in 1996, and completed her education in 2000 with a Doctor of Philosophy in communication and media studies with additional research in pedagogy and instructional design. Her lifelong love of mathematics and science was inspired by a middle school teacher who helped her overcome her struggles with the curriculum by introducing her to new methods for completing the calculations and helping her find real-world applications for the class material. Dr. Singh relocated to Texas in 2010 and spent the next two years teaching high school science to students in the Frisco and Plano Independent School Districts, integrating her own student experiences and curriculum design background.
Dr. Singh remains deeply involved in facilitating a number of additional academic programs for area students, serving as a trainer and organizer for Frisco ISD since 2009, directing and coaching both the Frisco Chess Club and LEGO Robotics League, and moderating the district spelling competition for more than five years. She is a Registered Yoga Teacher and Registered Kids Yoga Teacher, teaches classes at area temples and churches, and is active in numerous educational advocacy organizations including the National Science Teachers Society, the Texas Education Association, and the National After School Society. In recognition of her tireless outreach and commitment to helping students learn and create, Dr. Singh was presented with a 2019 North Texas Trail Blazer Award. In the coming years, Dr. Singh hopes to be able to license the SMARTS Club concept and curriculum to other schools and administrators with similar instructional philosophies.
