Patricia C. Wilkins, MS, Early Childhood Educator at John Tyler Elementary School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in elementary education.
Since her formative years, Ms. Wilkins had always enjoyed working and collaborating with children. She went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science in psychology, with a minor in computer science, from Hunter College, as well as a Master of Education from Hunter College, with 60 additional credits, in 1991. She subsequently earned certification to teach pre-kindergarten through third grade students in the District of Columbia, having begun teaching in 1984. For the past 20 years, she has excelled as an early childhood educator at John Tyler Elementary School in Washington, D.C. Currently, teaching kindergarten, Ms. Wilkins is highly regarded by her colleagues for creating a learning center guided towards areas of concern for the needs of students.
Finding great success in her career, Ms. Wilkins was the recipient of the Milken Educator Award in 2004. Attributing her success to a genuine care for her students, she further proves her dedication to their learning journey in having served as the president of the District of Columbia Reading Council and a building representative for the Washington Teachers Union. Likewise, she is a former member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Looking toward the future, Ms. Wilkins intends to learn more about other forms of teaching, whether it be instructing other adults on how to teach, serving in an administrative section, or tutoring and counseling privately.
