Having cultivated an interest in science since watching the first moon landing as a three-year old, as well as a deep passion for such science fiction properties as Star Trek, Mr. Silva pursued his professional ambitions accordingly. After attending the University of Texas at El Paso, he attained a Bachelor of Science in 1990 and a Master of Science in 1993. Following these accomplishments, Mr. Silva earned his first position in the field as a teaching assistant, through which he found great fulfillment in sharing his love for biology and science.
Progressing in his professional roles, Mr. Silva joined the faculty at El Paso Community College in 1995, where he excelled as a professor of biology between 1999 and 2019. In a career suffused with highlights, he is most proud to have taught within the college’s early high school college program, wherein high school students could attain college credits. Often named as the students’ favorite professor, a ceremony was eventually held in Mr. Silva’s honor.
To remain aware of developments in the field, Mr. Silva maintains his affiliation with the Science Research Society and Sigma Xi. In accounting for his standout success, he credits his high school biology teacher, Mercedes Guzman, and his science professors, Dr. Lilian Mayberry and Dr. John Bristol. To attest to his legacy, Mr. Silva can also be found in the 61st and 65th editions of Who’s Who in America.
