Title: Education Officer
Company: New Haven Sail and Power Squadron
Location: East Haven, Connecticut, United States

Arthur Andrea, education officer at New Haven Sail and Power Squadron, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in boating safety.

Since 2010, Mr. Andrea has been a volunteer education officer for the New Haven Sail and Power Squadron, a nonprofit organization dedicated to sharing the pleasures of safe and skilled boating through education, vessel safety, and civic engagement. A member organization of America’s Boating Club based out of the port of New Haven, Connecticut, the squadron offers a broad range of classes in topics related to power, sail, and paddle boating safety for civilians. As an education officer and Certified Safe Boating Instructor, Mr. Andrea works directly with students as well as training and facilitating classes for other instructors. He considers the water to be “his playground and his biggest joy,” and takes pride in helping others learn to enjoy it safely, adding that too often, people “take water safety for granted.”

Mr. Andrea has been involved with the New Haven Sail and Power Squadron since 2000, holding a variety of roles and responsibilities prior to becoming an education officer. In recognition of his dedication to education and his passion for recreational boating, Mr. Andrea was presented with a district-level award for outstanding class instruction by the United States Power Squadrons in 2019. Mr. Andrea credits his success to working with and learning from others.

In addition to his work for America’s Boating Club, Mr. Andrea is a retired firefighter celebrating more than 29 years of service. Committed to helping teach and reinforce community safety, he spent 48 years as a volunteer firefighter before securing his first paid position and has completed coursework in fire science and related subjects. In the coming years, Mr. Andrea hopes to continue working with the New Haven Sail and Power Squadron and America’s Boating Club on a district- and national level and looks forward to watching his grandsons finish high school and begin their adult lives.
