Sandra Kay Adkins, a teacher at Howard County Public Schools, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music education.
For over 30 years, Ms. Adkins has provided her students with unparalleled music educational programs. She initially obtained a Bachelor of Science in music from Labanon Valley College in 1972 and a Master of Education in music from Towson University in 1979. During this time, she began her career as a teacher within the Baltimore County Public School District between 1972 and 1975. She completed her education in 1989, at which time she earned a Master of Education in counseling from Loyola University Maryland. Thereafter, Ms. Adkins received an advanced professional certificate for the state of Maryland.
From 2006 to 2016, Ms. Adkins found additional success as an academy administrator for Howard Community College. Supplementing her professional career, she has served as a Maryland adjudicator since 1999, an adjudicator for the Festivals of Music for Music in the Parks and a consultant for Baltimore County Public Schools. Dedicated to her community, she participated on the member board of Howard County Summer Theatre from 1989 to 1995 and played as a church musician for over 30 years. She has maintained her affiliations with the American Choral Directors Association, the Music Educators National Association and Delta Kappa Gamma, of which she served as the president from 1994 to 1996. For her contributions within the field, Ms. Adkins is a recipient of the Teaching Excellence Award from Howard Community College and she is honored to have been named as the Music Educator of the Year by Howard County Parents School Music in 1997.
