Title: Owner and Director
Company: Milestones Preschool
Location: Yuma, Arizona, United States
Josie Garcia M.Ed., owner and director of Milestones Preschool, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in early childhood education.
Ms. Garcia is an early childhood educator and the owner of Milestones Preschool, a comprehensive educational center for students aged 1-5 years. Growing up, Ms. Garcia had positive memories of her teachers and school staff, remembering that she was “able to break through obstacles and weaknesses because someone else was there for her.” As a teenage parent, she left high school for a year and began working on her Child Development Associate credential, an internship-based course that helped her realize her calling to education. She relocated from California to Arizona and began working with Cocopah Head Start as an educational coach in 2008.
The same year, Ms. Garcia began working with Arizona Western College, beginning as an administrative secretary and rising to become an associate faculty member in the school’s early childhood education department in 2012. Since 2014, she has also led professional development classes for the Council for Professional Recognition. After overcoming a number of educational obstacles due to being a parent and holding a full-time job, Ms. Garcia completed her Bachelor of Science degree from Grand Canyon University in 2016 and a Masters degree in early childhood education in 2018.
The culmination of years of work and a lifetime of goals, Ms. Garcia opened Milestones Preschool in 2018. In its first year, Milestones was voted Yuma, Arizona’s Favorite Preschool, and currently serves nearly 50 students. Milestones Preschool networks with local community colleges to develop relationships with the next generation of early childhood educators and support women and children recovering from abuse. Ms. Garcia is a member of the Yuma Chamber of Commerce and has been featured in a local magazine segment on empowered women, among other distinctions, and looks forward to continuing to run a successful business and advocate for high-quality early childhood education for years to come.
