Janet Marie Maddy, Retired Dean of Students in the C Track at Nimitz Middle School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in academic administration and physical education.
Retiring in 1997 as the dean of students in the C Track at Nimitz Middle School in Huntington Park, California, after serving in this role since 1994, Ms. Maddy boasts more than 30 years of professional experience in education to her credit. She previously worked for Nimitz Middle School as a physical education teacher from 1985 to 1994 and acted as principal with Westchester Lutheran School from 1978 to 1984. Garnering experience in a variety of roles in education, Ms. Maddy was a teacher of physical education at multiple further schools, including serving as a coach, instructor, and department chair. She additionally contributed her time as a member of the shared decision-making council at Nimitz Middle School from 1992 to 1996, and as a delegate for the Women in Sports Delegation to China through the Citizen Ambassadors Program in Spokane, Washington, in 1994.
Prior to her career in education, Ms. Maddy served for four years in active duty with the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964, retiring at the rank of commander. She went on to serve in the United States Naval Reserve for nearly two decades, from 1964 to 1983. In order to keep abreast of changes and developments in her profession, Ms. Maddy has maintained affiliation with a number of organizations in her field, including the American Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, and the Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation. She has additionally been a member of United Teachers Los Angeles and Crawford County Retired Teachers, the latter of which she has served as the vice president. Ms. Maddy holds an Associate of Arts from Pasadena City College, as well as a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from California State University, Los Angeles. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, sports, and traveling.
