Justin P.V. Zachariah, MD, MPH, Associate Professor at Baylor College of Medicine, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pediatric cardiology.
Dr. Zachariah is a board-certified pediatric cardiologist and associate professor at Baylor College of Medicine and the Texas Children’s Hospital Heart Center. He has been affiliated with the school since 2015, when he became an assistant professor, rising to associate after five years. Dr. Zachariah holds a Bachelor of Arts from Rice University and earned his Doctor of Medicine from Baylor College before continuing his education at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts, where he was awarded a Master of Public Health. He completed a residency in pediatric medicine at the University of California San Francisco before accepting a clinical fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
During his fellowship at the Boston Children’s Hospital, Dr. Zachariah was encouraged to pursue a research fellowship with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, where he would become the first research fellow of the Framingham Heart Study. He was awarded the fellowship and started his work intending to focus on the epidemiology of congenital heart diseases, but instead discovered a passion for pediatric preventive cardiology, which became his specialty. After completing the research fellowship in 2010, Dr. Zachariah returned to the Boston Children’s Hospital as an instructor, where he would teach until 2015.
As a noted expert in his specialty, Dr. Zachariah is the author of 72 publications and has received more than 1300 citations in other published studies and papers. He remains a fellow of the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, and the American Academy of Pediatrics, and his career accomplishments have been recognized with numerous accolades and awards. Dr. Zachariah is a grantee of the National Institutes of Health and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, has won Best Presentation awards from both Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine, and was presented with a 2012 K23 Career Development Award. He is an ad hoc grant reviewer for institutions including the United States National Institutes of Health, the Polish National Institutes of Health, and the National Institute of Digestive Disorders and Kidney Disease, and is affiliated with the Center of Disease Control on Occupational Safety and Health.
