Specializing in the instruction of language arts, Ms. Penny has been dedicated to her role as a first through fourth grade teacher for over 40 years. Dedicated to serving as a mentor and confidant to her peers while attending elementary and high school, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in education from Northern Illinois University in 1959. She later earned a Master’s degree from National Louis University in 1970. Thereafter, she returned to her hometown of Waukegan, Illinois to begin her career as an educator. Born and raised in Waukegan, Ms. Penny is honored to have served the local community for the duration of her career.

Ms. Penny is gratified to have formed a multitude of personal and professional relationships with various generations of families and students she has taught throughout the years. As the former president and district governor of the Waukegan Uptown Lions Club, she remained committed to improving the quality of life of her friends and neighbors. For her contributions and dedication to the profession of teaching, she was awarded the National Education Award in 1975. Over the course of her career, she has maintained professional affiliations with the Illinois Teachers Union and the National Education Association. Though she is currently enjoying retirement, she aims to continue participating with the Waukegan Uptown Lions Club through meetings, field service and mentoring young members.
