Jessie Galvan, Music Teacher at Plum Creek Elementary School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music education.

From watching his mother excel as a nurse, Mr. Galvan originally considered pursuing a career in medicine, only until he was introduced to music. Upon joining the sixth grade band in school, his world shifted and he completely dedicated himself to the trumpet. With the help and encouragement from his band director, he pursued various auditions that would later aid him in spearheading his career in music and music education. In 2014, Mr. Galvan earned a Bachelor of Music from the University of Texas at Brownsville.

At the start of his professional career, Mr. Galvan taught bilingual students in 2015. That same year, he joined Plum Creek Elementary School, part of the Lockhart Independent School District, in Lockhart, Texas. For four years, until 2019, he served in the same capacity as a teacher to bilingual students until taking on the role of a music teacher, in which he continues to excel to this day. Finding great success in teaching, Mr. Galvan was named Teacher of the Year for Elementary and Teacher of the District in 2020, which he cites as the highlight of his career.

To remain abreast of his industry, Mr. Galvan currently maintains membership with the Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Classroom Teachers Association. A volunteer with Oxfam, he attributes the success of all of his endeavors to his parents, Hector and Noelia. In five years’ time, Mr. Galvan has goals to commence studies to attain a Master of Music, focusing on the study of the cultural aspect of music worldwide, as he notes that music in the United States differs by region. He also hopes to dedicate more time to teaching the trumpet. In his spare time, he enjoys reading and going to the beach.
