Dr. Zafar H. Israili, professor of chemistry at Emory University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in chemistry education.
For over 50 years, Dr. Israili has been recognized as a staple of the community at Emory University, where he began his tenure as an assistant professor of medicine and chemistry from 1970 to 1975. Presently, he holds the positions of an associate professor of medicine and a professor of chemistry. Born and raised in India, he obtained a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science from Aligarh Muslim University in 1951 and 1953, respectively. During this time, he established himself as a research associate and junior science officer for the Atomic Energy Commission of India between 1957 and 1961. After immigrating to the United States, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Kansas in 1968, where he subsequently worked as a research associate until 1969.
Dr. Israili began his career as a senior research chemist at the Alza Corporation from 1969 to 1970. He has found additional success as a member of the science staff at Grady Hospital and as an adjunct professor of chemistry at Georgia Perimeter College. Throughout the course of his career, he has maintained his affiliation with the Inter-American Society of Clinical Pharmaceutical Therapists, the American Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics and the Society of Experimental Biology and Medicine. For his contributions to the field, he was named as a Merck, Sharpe & Dohm grantee, a Veterans Affairs grantee and an American Heart Association grantee. Moreover, Dr. Israili is proud to have been a recipient of the Asia Foundation Award and the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.
