Kellen J. Adams, Superintendent of Chanute Unified School District 413, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in educational administration.

In preparation for his primary professional endeavors, Dr. Adams first attended Fort Hays State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in secondary education in 2007. He continued his academic efforts at the same institution, graduating with a Master of Science in educational administration in 2011. In 2018, he concluded his coursework at Kansas State University, earning a Doctor of Education in education leadership. In addition, Dr. Adams is a certified teacher in history and mathematics for grades 5-8, holds certifications in district leadership and building leadership for pre-K through 12th grade, and also holds multiple further educational certifications.

Dr. Adams began his career in 2008 as a classroom teacher with USD 489 Hays Middle School in Hays, Kansas, where he remained for five years. He transitioned to educational leadership as a principal and assistant superintendent for pre-K with USD 326 in Logan, Kansas, in 2013, and following his departure from this role in 2016, acted as the assistant superintendent of business and operations with USD 490 in El Dorado, Kansas until 2019. Since 2019, Dr. Adams has contributed his expertise as the superintendent of the Chanute USD 413 in Chanute, Kansas. In addition, he has shared his knowledge with students as an adjunct instructor at Fort Hays State University’s College of Education.

In addition to his primary endeavors, Dr. Adams has been the owner of Midwest Timing LLC, a track and cross-country timing company, since 2014, and previously served as a coach for both track and field and volleyball from 2008 to 2013. He has contributed his time as the treasurer on the board of directors of the Chanute Regional Development Authority, as a member of the Chanute Rotary Club, and as a board of directors member with Leadership Kansas.

The author of “An Overview of Selected Impacts and Reconceptualization of State Aid to Public School Infrastructure in Three Representative Kansas School Districts” in 2018, Dr. Adams has maintained membership with a number of professional organizations related to his field. These include the American Association of School Administrators, the Kansas School Superintendents’ Association, the United School Administrators of Kansas, and the Chanute Chamber of Commerce. Beginning in July 2023, Dr. Adams is poised to serve as the next Superintendent of Schools for Leavenworth USD 453. There he will oversee approximately 600 staff members, and work to develop and strengthen educational programming to support the needs of 3,800 students in Leavenworth, Kansas. He looks forward to bringing his administrative and leadership responsibility to a larger school system, and to continue the success of his business in the years to come.
