Darryl F. Wilkerson, Instructor and Coordinator for General Chemistry at Texas Southern University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in chemistry, physics and education.
For nearly 40 years, Dr. Wilkerson has been renowned as a staple in the Texas Southern University community for his role as the general chemistry coordinator and general lab coordinator for all of the university’s chemistry courses. Moreover, in addition to serving as the science building safety manager, he supervises all graduate students and teaching assistants who occupy the general and organic chemistry labs. Inspired to pursue a career in science by his father, he regularly competed in various science fairs, including placing third in the regional competition of the Dallas County Science Fair. He later returned to TSU to earn a Doctor of Philosophy in environmental toxicology with a minor in air quality.
Applying his scientific expertise, Dr. Wilkerson authored the “Organic Chemistry Laboratory Manuel” in 2019. Throughout his career, he has maintained professional affiliations with Alpha Pi Alpha and the American Chemical Society. For his accomplishments, he is proud to have been presented with the 35 Year Service Award from TSU. Though chemistry and physics have always come naturally to him, he attributes his success to his thirst for knowledge and unfaltering desire for answers. Looking toward the future, he aims to establish himself as a full-time professor and win a Nobel Prize for his contributions to various scientific studies.
